Monarch Sponsors Eye Surgeries for Residents In Osun State

The Akire of Ikire, Oba Olatunde Falabi, on saturday called on wealthy Nigerians to assist people with eye problems to access treatment. He said this during his free eye surgery he organized as he marked his 80th birthday.

Oba Falabi said that many people were needlessly going blind in the country because they could not afford to pay as low as N20,000 to access treatment to correct their eye defects.

At least 60 persons were given glasses and those whose cases required surgery were operated on by doctors and the monarch paid the bill.

The monarch, who said he was once an eye patient, said that his experience made him to organise the free eye surgery for the beneficiaries.

Falabi said, “Eye is very important to the body. It is a part of the body which must be well protected. I want to encourage our people to go for regular medical checkup.

“Many are going blind in the country because they cannot afford to go to hospitals. Some of them cannot even raise as low as N20, 000 for surgery”.

“The rich people in the society should come to the aid of this set of people by sponsoring surgery to help correct their defects.”

Some of the dignitaries present at the programme include a member of the House of Representatives, Mrs. Ayo Omidiran, lauded the monarch for sponsoring surgeries for the beneficiaries.

The Manager, St. Mary Catholic Eye Hospital, Ago Iwoye, Mr. Daniel Anthony, said that eye problem was very common in the country.

According to him, every family has at least one person suffering from one eye defect or another.

He also called on Nigerians to always go for medical checkup to be able to address whatever disease they might be suffering from on time.
