Federal Government has donated various foodstuffs and other commodities to the victims of drought that ravaged Namibia between 2013 and 2014.
The food materials which comprise 300 metric tons of rice, 700 metric tons of maize and three metric tons of fish fillets and powder, were all produced locally in Nigeria, according to a statement on Monday by the Head of Chancery, Nigeria High Commission in Namibia, Dayo Adeoye.
While presenting the materials to the Namibian government in Windhoek, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, explained that the donation was based on the recommendation of the Nigeria High Commission in Windhoek, Namibia which drew the attention of the FG to the drought that caused the loss of many lives and livestock due to food scarcity.
Adesina, who was represented by the Nigeria High Commissioner to the Republic of Namibia, Dr. Biodun Olorunfemi, expressed Nigeria’s solidarity with the people of Namibia on the occurrence of the “unpreventable natural disaster” in the country.
He said, “Our hearts go out to all who have suffered or have lost loved ones in this terrible disaster. Nigerians stand united with the people of Namibia who have shown such incredible resistance in surmounting the challenges posed by the drought.”
The Agriculture minister explained that the continued support of the FG was due to the fact that Nigeria regards Namibia as a friendly and dependable ally and brother with shared bond and history.
The Minister assured that Nigeria would continue to build strong and cordial relationship between her and the Republic of Namibia."
