The police in Benue State have arrested a civil servant with the state Water Board, Sunday Ityokyaa, who poisoned his seven-year-old son, Sesugh to death last Sunday.
Ityokyaa is a native of Vandeikya Local Government Area of the state. Daily Independent learnt that Ityokyaa took his son to a drinking spot in their neighbourhood where he committed the act in connivance with the owner of the joint.
He was said to have forcefully fed with him a mixture of kerosene and insecticide.
Sesugh who is the first child of the suspect and a nursery two pupil later died in the early hours of Monday.
The child’s mother, Mnena who was shocked at the action of her husband said she is yet to ascertain the reason behind her husband’s inhuman act.
The landlady of the house where the act was committed, Catherine Oragba, said she gave the woman who connived with Ityokyaa to kill his son shelter in her house out of sympathy.
She explained that she had received several complaints about the woman but dismissed it with a wave of the hand.
However, she said, “This singular incident has confirmed to me all the allegations. I am an old woman and I almost lost my small building which would have been razed down by angry youths over the death of the boy”.
The Police Public Relations Officer Austin Ezeani who confirmed the report said that the matter would soon be charged to court after the police conclude their preliminary investigations."
