Tambuwal’s DSS Aides Restored

The Department of State Security, (DSS) has restored the security aides of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal.

This comes months after all security details attached to the Speaker was withdrawn by the Federal Government in October, 2014, following his defection to the opposition party, APC (All Progressives Congress) from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Sources said top level security report informed the Speaker that “orders have been given for the withdrawal of his security details”.

A press release issued by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, cited the defection of the Speaker  from the PDP to the APC as reason.

Part of the statement read, “…having regard to the clear provision of section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has redeployed its personnel attached to his office.”

As the number four citizen of the Country in the hierarchy of protocol, the Speaker is entitled to a round-the-clock security made up of men from the Police, Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Security (DSS).

Meanwhile no explanation has been given for restoring his security aides, but the spokesman of the Speaker, Imam Imam, confirmed the return of the DSS details.

However, the Inspector General of Police is yet to restore the Speaker’s police orderlies."
