World Bank Lends Niger $37m To Fight Malaria

The World Bank has extended a $37m loan to Niger for financing a project on fighting malaria and neglected tropical diseases in the Sahel, an official source said on Tuesday.
According to the same source, the project covers Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger and is funded by the International Development Association (IDA) to the tune of $121m.

The source said with each country allotted $37m for a period of five years and $10m set aside as subsidy to the West African Health Organisation (WAHO).

The project focused on health policy in Niger, which aligned with the WAHO mission and that of the World Bank, aimed at reducing poverty and ensuring that growth benefits everybody.

Report says its aim is to increase access and use of community harmonised services for the prevention and treatment of malaria and some tropical diseases in border areas of the targeted countries.
