The heartbroken girlfriend of a Shoreham air disaster victim has paid a moving tribute to the ‘love of her life.’
Jacob Schilt had been on the way to play an away football match with his Worthing United FC team when he was killed in the tragic plane crash last week. His girlfriend of three years, Megan Duffy, who was planning a happy future with the 23-year-old has been left devastated by his loss.
In a touching tribute left at the crash site, the 22-year-old said: ‘You were the love of my life and I am sure we would have grown up to get married, had babies and live in Brighton.
‘I’m sure we would have 10 cats too that you would chase about.
‘That will never happen now but I will always love you and you will always be a part of me. I will forever cherish all the memories that we shared.’
Ms Duffy, who met Mr Schilt while at the University of Portsmouth, had been on the way to watch him play with his parents Bob and Caroline Schilt.
Sadly they never got the chance.
On August 22, a Hawker Hunter aircraft smashed into vehicles onto the A27 main road during a display at the Shoreham Airshow in Shoreham-by-Sea – killing at least 11 people in the deadliest airshow disaster in more than 60 years.
Another 16 were injured including the pilot who was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Ms Duffy believes that, in a cruel twist of fate, her boyfriend would have survived if he had left just moments earlier.
‘Had he left here 30 seconds earlier he would not have been there,’ she told The Argus.
His family have also paid tribute to their ‘gorgeous’ and ‘talented’ son.
‘You are in our hearts for every moment of everyday for as long as we live,’ they said.
