The Super Eagles coach, Sunday Oliseh, has commented on the team’s performance against Tanzania in the game which has ended in a 0-0 draw.
The first leg of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was held on Saturday, September 6, in Dar es Salaam. Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme made a series of brilliant saves preventing the team from losing the match.
According to Vanguard, speaking shortly after the game coach Oliseh blamed lack of organization for the disappointing performance.
“We were disorganized in the first half but fared better in the second. In the second half we organized ourselves better but lacked that quality supply from midfield to attack. We will get better.
“We have to continue to build. We barely had two good days of training before this match so I am happy with the one point.”
He commended debutante Ikeme for his quick and professional responses:
“I don’t like to single out players from the team but I have to admit that Carl Ikeme had a great game for us today.”
It should be noted that Oliseh has been under pressure to ensure the Eagles’ rebirth after having substituted Stephen Keshi, who had lead Nigeria to the AFCON victory in 2013.
Oliseh has today played his first competitive game in charge. And although its outcome is satisfactory for the Eagles to proceed with the contest, Nigerians expect more from the new coach.
