Announcing the results in Minna, Niger state, today, September 9, the registrar of NECO, Abdulrashid Garba, said the 68.56 per cent of the candidates that sat for the exams got more than five credits, including English and Mathematics.
He revealed that the result was an improvement on the 2014 examination when 52.29 per cent of the students got above five credits.
According to him, 969,491 candidates wrote the examination out of 969,991 who registered and 0.11 per cent cases of malpractice was recorded, adding that the results of candidates involved have been cancelled.
He said: “The 2015 examinations result was released within 60 days after the final paper. This shows a great success achieved by the council. Lists of schools which were involved in examination malpractice have been blacklisted and the results of students who wrote in such centres have been cancelled.”
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that candidates who sat for the exam have therefore being advised by Garba to check their results on NECO’s website.
On a sad note, 81-year-old Muhammad Modibbo, who is said to be the oldest secondary student in Nigeria is dead. Modibo who is a Junior Secondary School 2 (JSS2) student in a school in Kano, had the aspirations of becoming a graduate not minding his old age.
