Nigeria Army recovers 97 cows from Niger cattle rustlers

THE 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna, Niger State, on Saturday said it had arrested a suspected cattle rustler and recovered 97 cows and 41 sheep in Sarkin Pawa in Munya Local Government Area of the state.
The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the Nigerian Army, Captain Agwu Njideka, told journalists in Minna that the cows and sheep were recovered during an operation by soldiers. She said other rustlers ran away on sighting the soldiers.

She added that the suspect, Abubakar Hassan, was arrested on Thursday during the operation led by Lt. Col. Adamu Yakubu, the Commanding Officer of 313 Artillery Regiment, Minna.

Agwu said the army authorities had handed over the suspect and the livestock to the council chairman in the presence of the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Sarkin Pawa, the council secretary and the Village Head of Zazzaga community in the area.

She stated that operation to get rid of criminals in the area was ongoing, warning that the brigade, under the leadership of Brigadier-General Baba Ibrahim, would not tolerate any form of criminality in Minna and its environment.

Agwu said, “I want to state categorically that the brigade will not condone any form of banditry, cattle rustling, kidnapping, rape or any form of criminality in its area of responsibility.”
