A transgender woman who was forced to serve her jail sentence in an all-male prison was today moved to a women’s jail following a national outcry. Tara Hudson, 26, was sent back to HMP Bristol in tears after losing a court appeal – but judges called on prison officials to consider moving her to a women’s jail.
And this afternoon it was reported that she had been moved to Eastwood Park to serve out the rest of her sentence after 150,000 members of the public signed a petition in her support.
The make-up artist was jailed for headbutting a bar manager in a drunken Boxing Day attack, and sent to a men’s prison because she is still legally male despite six years of sex-change surgery. She had attacked Christopher Dyer, manager of the town’s branch of Be At One, when he refused to serve her more drinks on December 26 last year.
She claims she was abused by fellow prisoners, who shouted ‘show us your t**s’ at her whenever she leaves her cell.
