Despite Receiving Over 3trn, Amaechi Bequeathed A Catastrophic Legacy – Rivers Govt

 Less than 24 hours after the Supreme Court validated the election of Governor Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Government has asked the former Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to account for over N3 trillion that accrued to the state during his eight year tenure.

The Rivers Government said that “Amaechi left the most abandoned projects in the history of Rivers state since 1967”, adding he left “a catastrophic legacy” as a governor.
Addressing a press conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Austin Tam-George, maintained that Amechi, who is currently the Minister of Transport, left a backlog of unpaid salaries of four months, eight months pension allowances and twelve months of teachers’ salaries unpaid.

“Rivers state is still reeling from the catastrophic legacy of the Rotimi Amaechi years. Despite receiving over three trillion naira in revenue in 8 years, Amaechi left the most abandoned projects in the history of Rivers state since 1967”.

On the Supreme Court verdict, Tam-George urged the Rivers people to be “vigilant against reactionary politicians that may determine [to] roll back the gains made so far by the Nyesom Wike administration”.
