Atiku Abubakar’s daughter move to tackle HIV/AIDS in Adamawa state

Daughter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Dr Fatima Atiku Abubakar, who is the Commissioner for Health in Adamawa state, has commenced Distribution of CD4 machines, drugs and other facilities to HIV / Aids treatment centres in Adamawa State. While flagging off the programme, she said the equipment and the drugs are crucial in the monitoring and management of the scourge.

“We purchase these drugs with the supports of the World Bank. The Distribution is part of efforts towards achieving the universal HIV/AIDS coverage,” Dr Fatima said.

She said her Ministry in collaboration with the State Primary Health Care Development Agency have already identified and trained health workers across the 21 local governments of Adamawa to manned the facilities and ensure maximum utilization.

She commended the State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (ADSACA) for its coordinating roles. Findings revealed that before now, the blood of HIV patients are usually taken to the nearby Taraba state for CD4 counts due to unavailability of CD4 counts machines in most treatment centers in the state
