The leadership of the Nigerian Air Force has named some newly commissioned projects of the service after some of its personnel who died in action in the campaign against the Boko Haram in the North East.
The Director of Public Relations and Information and Public Relations of the NAF, Capt, Ayodele Famuyiwa, said in a statement that the facilities were commissioned in the service’s units in Benin and Makurdi.
Famuyiwa said that the projects were named in honour of ‘Flight Lieutenant Ebitimi Owei and Flight Sergeant Awodi Emmanuel Adakole who died on October 10, 2015 and August 25, 2015 respectively.’
He said that the facilities in Makurdi included a two million litres capacity bulk fuel installation, a crew/briefing room of F-7Ni pilots, 12 units of 3-bedroom flats for Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, and sporting facilities for the use of NAF personnel, family members and host community.
He added that the NAF authorities also commissioned a block of four units of 3-bedroom flats for officers serving at the 81 Air Maritime Group, Benin.
Famuyiwa quoted the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans of the Air Force, AVM James Gbum, as having told the beneficiaries of the projects to give the expected dedication to the performance of their responsibility.
He said that the commitment of the government to the welfare of service personnel was to spur them to optimum performance.
