Ambode Visits Lagos Assembly, Woos Lawmakers For Support

Akinwunmi Ambode

Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, on Tuesday, stormed the Lagos State House of Assembly, urging the lawmakers to support his aspiration to become the next governor of the state in 2015.

Ambode during his visit to the state House of Assembly eulogized the speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji and wooed the lawmakers for their support. He maintained that the speaker had been a rallying point for all the aspirants after the primaries.

Appraising the Speaker’s achievements in almost 10 years, Ambode informed the gathering that the State needs a personality like Ikuforiji who will continue with what is on ground in the State.

In his words, “Ikuforiji has ensured that we all came together as one voice after the primaries. We are all winners and we will work together for the progress of the state and together we will move the state forward.”

“I came here to seek the support of all the 40 lawmakers in the Assembly. The state cannot move forward unless the legislative and the executive work together. I believe in team spirit. Once we win the elections, we will work together as a team to develop the state. Our functions are different, but our objectives are the same,” he said.

“It is not about if someone is coming back to the Assembly or not, it is about the relationship we have built. We have to work together for the elections,” Ambode explained.

Ambode also seized the opportunity to debunk the rumour that he became the candidate of the party due to godfatherism, contending that he secured the post based on the way he campaigned round the state from December 2013.

Responding, the Speaker of the House, Hon. Adeyemi Ikuforiji declared that Ambode and the Presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.) represent the change the country needs.

"Buhari would be declared winner of the Presidential election after the February 15 elections, while Ambode would be declared the winner of the Governorship election in Lagos State," he said.

Ikuforiji stressed that Ambode had worked with the House over the years to move Lagos State forward as the Accountant General of the state.

He further said that Ambode did not need to plead with the lawmakers for their support, while promising that he would give him 100% support and that entire lawmakers in the House would work for his success at the polls.
