Osinbajo, Aregbesola Appear In Court As APC Opens Defence At Osun Tribunal

          The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday began its defence against the petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate before the election petition tribunal hearing matters arising from the August 9 governorship election in Osun State.

Counsel to the second respondent, the APC, who is also the vice presidential candidate of the APC, Prof Yemi Osinbajo (SAN), at the opening of the defence, led four witnesses who were APC party agents during the election in evidence before the Justice Elizabeth Ikpejime led Panel.


They testified that the election in their respective units was hitch free and without any form of malpractices.

The four witnesses, while being cross examined by the petitioner’s counsel, Mr Nathaniel Oke (SAN), all affirmed that the election in their units were neither manipulated, nor was there intimidation of any sort as claimed by some of the petitioner’s witnesses.

Counsel to the APC, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, ‎accompanied by the first respondent, Governor Rauf Aregbesola, told newsmen that the performances of the four witnesses called for cross examination on Friday showed that the election was indeed free and fair, just as Counsel to the petitioner, Williams Ojo, also admitted that so much progress had been recorded.

‎The PDP and its candidate, Iyiola Omisore, are challenging the result of the August 9, 2014 governorship election in 17 local governments in the state.

The tribunal was adjourned till Saturday, December 20.
