UCL: Mourinho Calm Ahead Of PSG Clash

Chelsea FC Manager, Jose Mourinho, has said that there will certainly be a difference in Wednesday’s decisive Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), compared to when they met the French side the previous season.

Mourinho said that the team were tasked with overturning a 3-1 first-leg deficit, while they eventually proceeded on away goals courtesy of a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge, noting that the tie is far more delicately poised this time around, with the 1-1 draw at the Parc des Princes.

“When you are losing 3-1 you are at the limit of risk, You know if you concede one you are in trouble, you know you have to score at least two. Wednesday is different, there is complete balance but we are going to try to win,” the Portuguese said.

Chelsea boss also confirmed Nemanja Matic would return to the side, noting that while the Blues had won both games in which the Serbian missed, he remains as important as ever to the balance and structure of the team.

“He’s very important for us, we are happy he’s back. He’s fit to play, no problem with his injury. He’s had no football for a couple of weeks, no training either, but he’s ready to play and he will play on Wednesday in his normal position,” he revealed.

Mourinho also expressed disappointment on the approach from the PSG squad in the first leg which saw Eden Hazard on the receiving end of some rough treatment.

“I was surprised in that game because a team with fantastic players was the team with a record of fouls, they were the team making foul after foul, stopping Hazard with fouls and attacking the man on the ball with very aggressive actions.

“During this season we played against teams from the Championship and League One in the cups, but the most aggressive side we faced was PSG. It was a real surprise because with players of such quality I was expecting more football and less aggressiveness,” he explained.

The season, up until this point, has gone extremely well, with the Blues having already lifted a trophy, enjoying a five-point advantage at the top of the table and with a real opportunity to progress to the last eight of the Champions League.
