The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Liberia free of the Ebola virus, after the country has had no new cases in last 42 days.
The dreaded virus killed over 4ooo people more that any other affected country since the recent outbreak in the country, WHO in a statement released today, May 9, 2015, declared the country free from the virus saying ‘the outbreak of Ebola virus disease in Liberia is over.’
Speaking with BBC, Liberia’s President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf also expressed her excitement towards the new development as she said, ‘We will celebrate our communities which have taken responsibility and participated in fighting this unknown enemy and finally we’ve crossed the Rubicon. Liberia indeed is a happy nation.’
Meanwhile, neighbouring Guinea and Sierra Leone are still battling with the Ebola outbreak in there respective countries."
