Boat Mishap In Lagos Kills 1, 20 Others Rescued

A boat mishap around the Kikiri Imore area in Apapa, Lagos state has claimed the life of one person while 20 others were rescued from the boat. According to the Nigerian Tribune, the accident occurred due to a fishing net which affected the boat’s engine. The boat was said to be heading to Ogun state.

The victim was said to have died on the way to the hospital where he was been rushed too and he is yet to be identified. All the other passengers, 20 of them, were rescued by local divers around the vicinity where the incident happened.

The boat took off from Apapa and was on the way to Agbara in Ogun state when the unfortunate accident happened.

The south west spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident saying the agency received the report of the capsized boat around 7.00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8.

In recent times, there have been several boat mishaps on Lagos waterways. Many of the accidents are caused by unsafe practices by boat operators.

It wil be recalled that the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, recovered bodies of two female victims involved in a boat mishap on Saturday in Ojo area of Lagos.
