MFM’s Mountain Top University Fence collapses on family of five, kills four year old

A fence being constructed by the Mountain Top University owned by the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, is reported to have collapsed on a house in Ilu Oba, Magboro, in the Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun state on Thursday, killing a four-year-old girl.
The deceased, Olamide Adegbesan, her mother and three siblings of the deceased were in the house when the fence collapsed amidst heavy rainfall early Thursday morning. Olamide’s father reportedly left the house shortly before the unfortunate incident.
The deceased’s mother, Mrs Ayobami Adegbesan, who had not been informed of the death of Olamide as of the time she spoke with Punch, explained that she managed to escape from the rubble of the building with her six-month-old baby and looked for neighbours to help with the rescue of her other kids.
Punch reports that while Olamide was brought out from the rubble alive, she died on the way to the hospital.
Olamide’s mother lamented, “The fence had collapsed sometime in June but the engineer reconstructed it and made it a bit higher. It was raining heavily this morning (Thursday) and my husband had left for work around 5am. Later, I heard a loud sound and I felt everything falling on me.
“At first, I thought I was dreaming. I managed to crawl out of the rubble with my baby. I was practically naked with the baby in my arm. I started crying for help, but people did not hear me because of the rain. I began knocking on doors until a few men came out to help me,” she said.
A neighbour who helped in the rescue efforts attributed the fence collapse to the failure of the drainage channel being constructed around the fence to hold the flood that resulted from the heavy downpour that morning.
