The Ogun State Police Command has arrested and charged to court a police corporal, who fired and killed a commercial vehicle driver, Linkinyo Olamide, on Tuesday at the old tollgate in Sagamu, Ogun State.
The Police corporal, Abdullahi Yahuza,was charged to a Magistrate’s Court in Sagamu on Thursday for murder.
Yahuza was attached to a team on stop and search point at the old tollgate when he allegedly shot dead a commercial car driver.
The late driver was driving a car from Lagos to Okitipupa, Ondo State, when he was flagged down by the police for search before the suspect opened fire on him at about 9.30pm.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the driver was rushed to the hospital by the police team but gave up the ghost on the way, though a trader, who witnessed the shooting, said the police team fled the area after the driver was shot dead but returned later to pick the driver’s body.
Adejobi, said the Assistant Inspector- General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Lagos, Bala Hassan, who was on tour of the Ogun State Command, was assisted by the state Commissioner of Police, Abdulmajid Ali, to condole with the family of the deceased.
He said, “The command has assured the family of the deceased of justice in the case and support in all angles and the culprit will be prosecuted according to the provisions of the law.”
The PPRO added the commissioner had vowed not to tolerate any inappropriate or unprofessional conducts from any member of the command.
