The governor of Kwara State, Abdulfatah Ahmed has held an interactive session with various groups canvassing for their support for his re-election bid.
Gov. Ahmed met with pensioners and assured them, the readiness of his government to provide their needs especially the constant payment of their entitlement and empowerment.
The governor started by enumerating what had been the effect of dwindling federal allocation which he attributed to oil theft and lack of financial discipline to save for the rainy day by relevant authorities.
The State chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Mr Umar Farouk Akanbi was full of gratitude to the governor for the constant payment of the monthly pensions despite the lean purse of the State which he noted had been a life saver for most of the older citizens in the State.
Constant payment of pensions and gratuity, he stressed had endeared the governor to the elderly and assured him of the support of the pensioners in his re-election bid.
The chairman of the pensioners Mr Haliru Muhammad also lauded and appreciated the governor for being elderly friendly, he however urged him to intervene in the rescuing of their counterparts at the Local Government level who has not been having it easy collecting equal pensions like that of their counterparts in the State.
The governor while reacting, promised to look into their demands and announced that they would be incorporated into the community health insurance scheme and also benefit from the empowerment programme.
At the end of the interactive session, the pensioners were full of gratitude to the governor and expressed their readiness to ensure his return for a second term."
