Suspension Of Sen. Sani By Clique Loyal To El-Rufai Childish, Illegal – Kaduna APC Elders

As reactions continue to trail the controversial suspension of the senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, Shehu Sani, some elders of the party in Kaduna State have called on the party to withdraw the suspension.
Senator Sani was this week suspended from the party by the executive committee of the APC in his Tudun Wada ward, where he registered as a member of the party.

However, all the Tudun Wada excos members of the APC, who purportedly signed the letter suspending Sen. Sani, claimed their signatures were forged even as an APC chieftain in the state alleged that an aide to Governor Nasir El-Rufai bribed the officials with N.5million each to carry out the act.

The senator, despite belonging to the same party as the governor, has been a thorn in his flesh, publicly opposing most of his policies in the state, which he described as elitist.

In a statement Friday, the Kaduna APC elders expressed concern over what the termed the deteriorating state of the party in the state, which they said forced them to come out to save the party from further problems.

“The purported suspension of Senator Shehu Sani is one example of the result of the degeneration which is bound to occur as a result of the hijack of the remnants of our party by a clique that believes it owes its loyalty only to the governor.

“The questionable legality of the suspension and the childish reasons given for it demands that responsible members of the party speak up and demand a stop to the embarrassing melodrama that is unfolding”, they said.

In the statement by 16 of the elders, which included former interim chairman of APC in Kaduna, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, Mataimaki John Miyashi, Ambassador Sule Buba, Alhaji Kabir Umar, Alhaji Ibrahim Yaro and others, they maintained that no person shall exercise powers outside the party’s constitution.

Pleading with Senator Sani to rescind his decision to take legal action against the party, the elders stressed that the right to free speech is a fundamental right, which the party should uphold rather than breach.

“Every member should be free to express opinions on governance at all levels, subject to provisions of our party constitution”, they said and called on the national leadership of the party to facilitate the filling of the 14 existing vacancies in the state chapter of the party through constitutional and credible processes.
