Deadly Crane Collapse in New York City Kills at Least 1

At least one person was killed in a massive crane collapse in Lower Manhattan Friday morning, the New York Fire Department said.
The FDNY said it received a call about the incident at about 8:24 a.m. in the Tribeca neighborhood, about 10 blocks from the World Trade Center. One person has been confirmed dead, and three more were injured.
The crane, owned by Bay Crane and stretching more than 15-stories high, hit several buildings on the way down before crashing onto the roofs of parked cars.

“We had a very serious incident this morning,” New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a press conference, adding that the collapse happened as crews were lowering the crane into a secure position because wind speeds were above 20 mph.
The confirmed fatality was a man in his 30s who was sitting in a parked car.
“The fact is, this is a very, very sad incident – we have lost a life – but if you go out there on the street, as I did, and see what happened here, thank God it was not worse,” the mayor said.
