Caring Fathers: How Jonathan And Buhari Behaved During Their Daughters Wedding

With the 2015 national election on the horizon, we take a look at how the two major candidates, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) and President Goodluck Jonathan behaved during their daughters’ weddings.

A couple of days ago, President Goodluck Jonathan gave away his daughter to marriage and the event was filled up with dignitaries and the president also was available.

He danced, ate and smiled with the young couple as they celebrated their union.

The ceremony and celebrations which took place in Abuja on January 10, 2015, differ from another VIP Nigerian wedding. We came across the video of Buhari’s daughter, Halima Buhari, getting married to Babangana Sheriff, who is a son of Borno State’s former governor Ali Modu Sheriff. The event took place back in 2012.

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari was surprisingly absent for the three-day wedding and had the Emir of Borgu stand in for him.

The happy couple received N200,000 in the form of a gold coin, as bride price for Buhari’s beautiful daughter.

Ali-Modu Sheriff was accused by a so-called ‘Australian negotiator’ as the sponsor of Boko Haram.

People have also accused Presidential candidate Buhari himself of sponsoring the terrorists’ group, and they have cited Buhari’s statement that he would make the nation ungovernable if Jonathan won the 2011 elections.

A wedding between the two kingdoms in the old-time was to solidify alliances between kings and allies. But as of now, Buhari is a part of the All Progressives Congress, while Sheriff belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party.

Buhari is aiming to be Nigeria’s next president and unseat Goodluck Jonathan.
