Ghanaian actress, Peace Hyde talks about her role in MTV’s ‘Shuga’, career and ideal man

Famous for her endowed body, Peace Hyde, who is regarded as the queen of curves among actresses in Ghana speaks to NET on her career, life and more..;

How did your journey in entertainment begin?

It began when I moved to Nigeria about a year and a half ago and auditioned for an M-Net production. I got a role as Temi in the ‘Protege’ which was directed by Alex Mouth. I later  landed another M-Net role as Samantha in the ‘Prodigal’ which was shot by award winning director of ‘Jand Hustle,’ Mr E. The rest as they say is history.

You could have done something else why acting?

It has always been a passion of mine to be in the creative arts industry and when I moved back to Africa, I was blessed enough to be given the opportunity to be part of this exciting industry. I always wanted to explore that side of me and so when the opportunity presented itself I jumped at it.

You were a teacher back in the U.K, where you lived for several years, how easy was it for you  relocating to Africa?

It was quite difficult because I had to leave everything I know behind including family and friends but I strongly believe it was the right time. I had reached a point in my career as a teacher where I felt I had achieved everything I wanted especially after my appointment into the senior management team. The PAN Africanism in me always knew I would return back to Africa and I decided to take a leap of faith and pursue my love for the creative arts.

Tell us about your TV show.

My TV show is a lifestyle show that focuses on everything to do with life and living it. It was inspired by the need to give practical expert advice about all the issues people deal with in life. We cover things like prostitution, drugs, HIV etc.

Now that you are becoming increasingly popular in Nigeria, what is your plan for Nigerian entertainment industry?

I absolutely love the Nigerian entertainment industry and I think it is a very competitive industry with so many talented individuals. I am learning a lot already and I am just blessed to be able to secure projects in such high quality productions.

You played a Yoruba mother (Eniola) in MTV’s Shuga, how easy was it for you to get into the character?

It was quite a challenge playing the role of a mother. It required a much more mature and understanding person and also putting yourself in the mindset of someone dealing with HIV was also a challenge. I loved the role, it was very educational for me and I am sure the audience will love this new season as well. I loved the transformation the role created and I hope people enjoy the performance as much as I did.

One thing you are known for is your killer figure, has that in anyway helped your career?

I don’t think that has made me good at what I do. I believe people will always find something to fixate on and that cannot really be helped. However after you get the attention; what do you have to offer? I believe talent goes a longer way than looks and that is something that my mum has always taught me. I don’t sit on TV and keep quiet because of my looks, you have to be able to anchor a show intelligently for an hour and that has nothing to do with looks.

Who are the Ghanaian actresses you are looking up to?

I look up to a lot of Ghanaian actresses especially those who paved the way for a lot of new comers like me. Mainly people like Yvonne Nelson, Jackie Appiah, Grace Omaboe etc.

And who are the Nigerian actresses that inspire you?

I would say obviously the greats Genevieve Nnaji and Omotola Jalade, but with the new school, people like MichelleD ede and kehinde Banks have really inspired me also.

Tell us the Nigerian actors you who would love to act alongside.

I would love to act alongside RMD. I grew up watching all his movies because my mum was such a big fan and I know she would be so excited if I was in the same movie as him.

Some will say they will play nude role if the pay is right. Can you play a nude role?

I can’t see myself going nude for a role just because the pay is right. Acting is much more than the payment. You are leaving a piece of you behind that is recorded on camera forever. I look at each role with a simple question; will this be something I would be proud for children to see 10 years from now? If the answer is no, then no amount of money will change that decision.

Are you in a relationship?

I am in a relationship with God.

What’s your ideal man?

I am very focused on my work and God and I believe God is in control of everything. A lot of people focus on the ideals, I simply say you need to be in a relationship with someone who helps you grow and who you can also help achieve their fullest potential.

Is there any Nigerian entertainer you are crushing on?

No. I think I am actually quite boring and most people who know me think I’m just silly. So I personally do not think any Nigerian showbiz star is crushing on me and if they are I definitely do not know about it. Besides I am sure they have their hands full with all the female attention they get.
