How I Almost Lost My Leg In Nyanya Bomb Blast – Survivor

A woman, Joy Fidelis, who sells food at the Nyanya night market, has told Naij that she thought she had lost her leg in the bomb blast that happened in Nyanya area of Abuja on Friday, October 2.

Fidelis said she was sitting down with one of her customers when the twin bomb blast occurred at 10.30pm on that day.

“Just like that I saw one vehicle, they were pushing the vehicle to my side and somebody now directed it … the next thing I just heard gbam!

“I fell down there, I was even thinking my leg was not there anymore,” she said.

However, Fidelis said she felt very lucky saying she believed if the bombers had pushed the vehicle which contained the explosives to the corner where she sells food, she probably would have been dead.

The survivor, who had a deep wound covered in bandage on her leg, said the doctors told her a surgery would be performed on her.

Unlike Fidelis, Bashiru Abdullahi was not so lucky. He was killed in the Nyanya blast.

Bashiru’s brother, Babangida Abdullahi who spoke to journalists at the scene, said his brother sells La Casera drinks at night in the area.

He said it was while Bashiru was hawking his drinks that the blast happened.

Bashiru’s remains was taken away in a Federal Road Safety Corps van in the company of his brother – Babangida on Saturday, October 3 morning.

Authorities have also said that 20 people were killed while 41 others were injured in the multiple blasts that rocked Nyanya and Kuje – two suburbs in Abuja, Nigerian capital city.
