New EFCC Boss Promises To ‘Ginger Up’ Anti-Graft War

All members of staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, yesterday received the charge to re-awaken to their responsibility of fighting corruption in the country.

The new acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, who gave the charge during the handover ceremony at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, also declared his readiness to succeed at the helms of the anti-graft agency.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday directed the erstwhile EFCC chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde to proceed on terminal leave while naming Magu, who was head of the Economic and Governance Unit, EGU, to act in his capacity.

A statement issued by the Head, Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, further quoted Magu as expressing absolute commitment to executing the war against corruption.

The statement said while saluting the legacy and achievements of the founding fathers of the anti-corruption agency, Magu said, “I want to state our resolve not to falter on the well-established tradition of patriotism, dedication, courage and fearlessness”.

He promised to “ginger up the anti-corruption campaign”, stressing that there was no better time to do so than now.

The new EFCC boss also pledged to run an open door policy as well as make matters of staff welfare and development a priority.

He said, “While we will intensify on our work out there, we will also keep an eye internally, and will not tolerate indiscipline nor condone abuse of office or acts of corruption”.

Magu, who is a pioneer staff of the EFCC like his predecessor, thanked him for his leadership and wished him the best in his future endeavours.

On his part, Lamorde, charged staff of the EFCC to be patriotic and desist from engaging acts he termed as ‘Pull Him Down’ syndrome.
