The Igbo socio-political organisation, Njiko Igbo Forum (NIF), which made the call yesterday in a communiqué at the end of its meeting at the Ohanaeze Ndigbo secretariat in Enugu, Enugu State, questioned the rationale behind high-profile terrorism suspects walking the streets free while non-violent pro-Biafra protesters are clamped into detention.
“We appeal for the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu of IPOB, Benjanin Onwuka and other detainees of the Biafra Zionist Movement, as well as other pro-Biafra detainees.
“We still wonder why Senator Ali Ndume went on lesser Hajj when he is on trial”, the group said.
The NIF noted that Biafra agitators were non-violent unlike the terrorist sect Boko Haram, and so should not be molested by the state.
“Boko Haram has been more brutal than the harmless pro-Biafra agitators, except our country is an ‘animal farm’ where, though all animals are equal, some are more equal than others”, the group asserted.
The group, while calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately begin a process of dialoguing with the Biafra agitators before their actions spiral out of control, also urged him to as a matter of national importance, speed-up the process of implementing the report of the National Conference because it considers it [the report] “the only panacea to peace and true federalism”.
