On Wednesday, Nov. 18, E! announced that it would be pulling the plug on its popular clip show hosted by Joel McHale after 12 years.
“We’ve had a weird ride and watched over 11,000,000 hours of terrible reality television but all good things must end,” the show’s Twitter account shared on Wednesday, followed by several other funny messages from the staff and crew behind the scenes of the show.“On our last episode we will reveal that Bigfoot has actually been working not he show as a PA this whole time,” the account tweeted.
Another
tweet showed the writers backstage with a giant bottle of Jim Beam
whiskey with a label taped over the outside, reading, “Big Bottle of
Soup.”
McHale, 43, helmed the reboot of the show in 2004. (It originally debuted asTalk Soup with Greg Kinnear back in 1991.)
“Joel took the show to new heights for more than a decade, and his irreverent humor and unique brand of comedy as captured so perfectly on The Soup will be missed,” the network said in a statement.
McHale had his own witty quips to add to the mix.
“Our elaborate plan to generate press for @TheSoup during sweeps/holidays is working,” he tweeted Wednesday. “Thx to all of u who watched. Ur the best. #spaghetticat.”“Part 1: I loved doing @TheSoup for all of these years(86 to be exact) but am excited to focus solely on my acting career now(soft core),” he continued. “Part 2: Thanks to all who watched and thanks to Kim Kardashian’s ass for all that it’s done for me and my family. #SpaghettiCat.”
The show, which took jabs at everything from Keeping Up With the Kardashiansto the Bachelor franchise, will air its final episode on Dec. 18.
