Obasanjo, who decried what he described as indiscriminate posting of police officers as orderlies, renewed the call for community policing in the country and reformation of the Nigeria Police.
The ex-president made these observations when the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, paid him a courtesy visit at his Oke-Mosan hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State on Wednesday.
Mr. Obasanjo in his remarks praised the leadership stride of Mr. Arase, saying his administration had put in efforts to restore some of the lost glory of the police.
In his speech, Mr. Arase said he was in the state to see his officers and inspect the level of preparations ahead of the burial of Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo.
NGTrends findings show that the United Nations recommends one policeman for 488 civilians but Nigeria, with an estimated population of about 167 million people, has a police strength of about 310,177 officers and men – a police-civilian population ratio of 1:538.
