History was made for these two Irish men who got married just hours
after same-sex marriage was legalised in Ireland thereby being the first
gay wedding in the country. It took place in the weirdest place ever –
the waiting room of a health centre.

both 35 had traveled to south Tipperary early on Tuesday morning to
make history as the first gay couple to tie the knot publicly.
Gollogly – a barrister from Terenure in Dublin and
Dowling, a banker from Athlone were already in a civil partnership
before they sealed their marriage on September 18.
The couple celebrated with their friends and family at the Kilshane House after the marriage was fully sealed.
“It feels really special, we feel so honoured and
privileged to be not only the first but now that we actually are
married as well,”
“The registrar knew it was so important to us (to be first) so she said will we just do it here.
“Having had the big, lavish ceremony in Kilshane in September, we didn’t feel hard done by in that sense,” Dowling told Metro UK.
The pair who have been together for 12 years were joined by senior registrar Mary Claire Heffernan
in the presence of two witnesses as they signed the register on a
hospital trolley in the waiting area of the centre at around 8.30am.
Gollogly and Dowling got engaged after a beach proposal in Sitges, Spain, two years ago.
“It’s been a whirlwind, it’s been incredible,” said Mr Gollogly.
“We are delighted to be the first to get married.”
