People all over the world are always drawn to natural attractions such as magnificent waterfalls, unique wildlife, mountainous landscapes and a host of others.
In Nigeria, there are a number of tourist sites which continue to attract tourists all year round.
In Lagos State, you have the Whispering Palms and the La Campagne Tropicana Beach Resort. In Enugu State, there is the Lake Nike Holiday Resort and in Cross Rivers state, you have the popular Obudu cattle ranch, among others.
While some of these resorts are privately owned, some others are state-owned.
Another one of these tourist sites which attract a number of people is the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort located in Ekiti West Local Governement Area, Ekiti state.
This resort which is surrounded by lush greenery is a preferred rendezvous for fun-seekers in Ekiti.
The Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort is one of the tourist attractions that
this country could be proud of because of the history and myth behind.
The mysterious thing about this resort is the fact that there is a rock
from which flows, side by side, warm and cold waters both of which
arrive at a meeting point.
There are a few legends surrounding the origin and discovery of the
Warm Spring and have been passed down generations for centuries.
According to one of such myths, the warm and cold springs were the two
wives of a great hunter, who, constantly, quarreled with each other. One
of his wives was said to be temperamental while the other was a quiet
woman. One day, the two wives had a fight and after being rebuked by
their husband, the temperamental wife changed to the warm spring while
the quiet one turned to the cold spring.
Another myth has it that a powerful hunter, while hunting for animals
in the forest, first found the warm spring. After the discovery, he
went to town with the story and the townspeople on learning about
curative powers of the spring, started to worship the spring.
The true situation remains to be found out and nothing can be
compared to taking a trip to this place to see things for oneself.
The people of Ikogosi also believe that the water gushing out from the spring has curative and therapeutic powers.
