The governor of Akwa Ibom state, Udom Emmanuel has denied report that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) raided the government house in Uyo, the state capital.
Speaking on Friday, September 4, through his chief press secretary, Ekerete Udo, the governor said the reported raid was a lie, Premium Times reports.
“My brother, that is a manufactured lie that I am not even aware of,” he said.
He stated that he had no knowledge of any such incident.
On Thursday, September 4, the DSS was reported to have raided the hilltop mansion in a joint operation carried out by operatives from the agency’s headquarters in Abuja and a detachment from the Akwa Ibom state command of the service.
A top official of the service had disclosed that they found stockpiles of US dollars rather than the expected arms and ammunition during its raid on the Akwa Ibom government house.
Some of the operatives had said earlier said they found arms and ammunition in one of the rooms in the complex
Governor Udom’s denial is contrary confirmation of the incident by two top leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Uche Secondus , the acting chairman of the PDP had raised the alarm and described the invasion as a civilian coup d’état.
Ayodele Fayose, the Ekiti state governor, described the invasion as “regrettable, unfortunate, condemnable”, while calling for the immediate sack of the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura, who he blamed for the invasion.
