The police officer who reportedly got himself drunk, lost his AK-47 rifle with 30 rounds of ammunition, while on duty with his team in the area.
Vanguard reports that the Inspector, who had told his colleagues that he was going to eat and also use the opportunity to repair the patrol van allegedly got back drunk without the gun and ammunition, and he was asked the whereabouts of his gun, the officer (name withheld) explained that someone took it while he was sleeping inside the vehicle in the station.
Further investigation by his team mates revealed that the police inspector was seen at Ipodo area of Ikeja, notorious for harbouring criminals, and was heavily drunk when the incident happened, as another source alleged that he probably engaged one of the commercial sex workers in the area, and the gun must have been removed while he was at it.
The antecedents of the inspector, who was once attached to Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, was said to have necessitated his transfer to the state.
One of his misdeeds include allegations of conspiracy with armed robbers and hoodlums.
He has since been arrested and detained at the state command, as efforts are ongoing by police authorities to recover the gun.
Only recently, a drunk naval officer shot about three people in Majidun area of Ikorodu in Lagos state.
