The Balogun Of Ibadanland Dies At 91


The Balogun of Ibadanland, Chief Sulaimon Adegboyega Alao Omiyale, is dead. He was 91. Omiyale, the next ranked chief to the Olubadan of Ibadan, died on Saturday evening at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan.


 His remains were brought to the Omiyale compound at noon yesterday amid tears and wailing.Amid grief, the family lamented thatit had lost out in producing the Olubadan.

He was buried at the Ope Agbe Palace, Omiyale house, Oja’ba, Ibadan, in the evening, after a funeral service by the Chief Imam of Ibadan, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakri Agbotomokekere.

The late Omiyale was absent at the Olubadan-in-Council meeting last Monday.

The Baale of Olomi in Ibadan, Chief Samuel Layode Oyewale, said the late Omiyale became the Mogaji in 1967.

He described his death as a great loss to the family but said “there is nothing one can do to stop the will of God”.

Oyewale said the late senior member of the Olubadan Advisory council had been ill for a while.

In his sermon, the Chief Imam said death was a necessary penalty for humans, adding that only God can determine when and how anybody would die.

At the service were former Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala and Chief Lekan Balogun, among others.
