The Keeping up with the Kardashians star felt unwell over the weekend, and was taken to the hospital after his conditioned got worse. Doctors diagnosed Kardashian, 28, with diabetes, a condition he was unaware he had.
Kardashian has faced personal struggles the past two years and began avoiding the public eye after battling depression and gaining over 100 lbs.
“Rob is still struggling and it makes the family sad,” a source close to the family told PEOPLE earlier this month. “He deals with depression, weight issues and low self-esteem, but that’s been going on for a long time.”
