Aregbesola Says Nigeria Has Lost 1.2 Trillion Naira To Oil Theft

The Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola, has condemned the inability of the Nigerian government to check the daily loss of over 400,000 barrels oil to oil theft.

He spoke at the public presentation of four books by the National Vice President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Issa Aremu, where he was the guest of honour.

He took a swipe on the Federal Government for not being able to check the alleged daily theft of petroleum products on the highway.

Governor Aregbesola noted that between the month of July 2013 and July 2014, at the rate of 50 dollars per barrel, the country lost 20 million dollars daily, amounting to about 1.2 trillion Naira within the period.

He urged the Federal Government to diversify the economy by investing in agriculture in order to save the economy of the country.

The Host, Mr Issa Aremu, also advised politicians to ensure that issues affecting the generality of Nigerians in the areas of job creation, foreign affairs and industrialisation top their campaign manifesto.

He added that whoever then emerges would have the blessing of the people.
