Ghanaian President Places High Hopes For 2015, Urges National Unity

 President John Dramani Mahama

Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday addressed the nation with high hopes for year 2015.

In his New Year's speech, Mahama said that the coming year holds a wide expanse of possibilities, calling on the people to enter 2015 without any cynicism or sense of limitation.

"When we look ahead, let us see all that we can achieve, and let us work, individually and collectively, in the interest of progress. We can turn that vision into a reality," said Mahama.

He said the year of 2014 reminded people of the value of human life, for both Ghanaians and the world. The fate of Ghana, as a country and as a sister nation of the African continent, is forever intertwined, which will bring Ghanaians to a place of triumph.

Mahama noted that while the rest of the world hesitated before offering their help, Ghana immediately took a bold stand against fear, leading the fight to contain the epidemic of Ebola, which has claimed lives of so many Africans.

"It is this type of courage, determination and generous display of humanity that has always defined us as a people, as a nation - not only on an international stage but also right here, on our own soil," he said.

He added that 2014 was a year that presented great challenges, but those challenges were met with great courage, and even greater compassion.

He promised to continue to rely on the free-flow of communication from Ghanaians as the country moves forward on the journey of transformation.
