Lionel Messi Drops Major Barcelona Exit Hint At Fifa Ballon d’Or Ceremony

Lionel Messi

The Argentinean had been strongly linked with a move to Premier League in light of claims that he’d fallen out with manager Luis Enrique, but he moved to dismiss speculation about his future as ‘lies’ in an interview with Barca TV on Sunday.

However, the 27-year-old was much more reluctant to commit his future to the Catalonian side on Monday evening, and admitted in a press conference prior to the 2014 Fifa Ballon d’Or ceremony that he didn’t know for sure where he’d be next season.

"I’m not sure where I will be next year. In the football world so many things can change overnight," he said.

"I’ve always said I will end my career at Barcelona, but as Cristiano [Ronaldo] says only God knows the future."

Messi scored and grabbed an assist as Barcelona beat Atletico Madrid to ease talk that the club was in crisis, but this latest revelation will only give confidence to Chelsea and City, who would need to pay in excess of at least £100m to secure the four-time Ballon d’Or winner’s services.
