The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has commenced detoxifying and cleaning the Methamphetamine drug manufacturing laboratory in Nanka in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The illegal laboratory was declared toxic and dangerous to public health by the NDLEA and the State Ministry of Health in March last year when it was shut down.
Addressing journalists over the incident, the State Commander of NDLEA, Sule Momodu, urged members of community to reject every seeming financial benefit from community members involved in such hazardous business and expose them for law to take its full course on them.
The Head of Forensic and Chemical Monitoring Unit of the Agency, Margaret Ogundipe, also announced that the underground water body in the laboratory environment has been seriously polluted and poses a threat to life of the community members,
The state commandant however commended the state government for the support in seeing to the clean up exercise through the release of funds and assured of the command’s continued effort in creating awareness on the dangers and the effects of drug abuse.
