With about eight days to the governorship election in Bayelsa State, the Sylva/Ogiri Campaign Organization has mocked Governor Seriake Dickson’s claim that his administration has zero tolerance for criminality and accused the governor of turning Government House, Yenagoa, into a safe haven for criminals.
The governor election in Bayelsa holds next week Saturday and is a two-horse race between ex-Governor Timipre Sylva of All Progressives Congress, APC, and Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The Sylva/Ogiri Campaign in a statement issued by its spokesman, Nathan Egba on Thursday, specifically alleged that the state governor was harbouring the prime suspect in the killing of an APC leader in Ekeremor, Comrade Andrew June, in the Government House.
The statement reads: “We have it on good authority that not only are wanted persons given refuge in Government House Yenagoa, there are even alleged criminal activities going on in the Guest Houses located within the Government House precinct.
“For instance, the alleged mastermind of the killing of an APC leader in Ekeremor LGA is said to be holed up in one of the Guest Houses there.
“Secondly, information at our disposal indicates that the PDP has imported some fierce looking thugs from nearby states, who were driven into the state in Coaster buses, escorted by a detachment of Security men attached to Government House, Yenagoa.
“These thugs are to wear the police and military uniforms being sewn in the Government House Guest Houses as we already alerted the security operatives about in an earlier Press Statement”.
The Sylva Campaign spokesman, therefore, called on the security agencies to investigate these allegations and get to the root of the matter in order to protect the integrity of the December 5 polls and prevent any breakdown of law and order.
