Earlier today, news about 500 Nigerian citizens were deported from the United Kingdom made waves saying they are all stranded at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos
NIS – Nigerian Immigration has however corrected that it was 48 and not 500 Nigerians that were deported. The deportees arrived Nigeria on a chartered plane that touched down at the Hajj and Cargo Terminal of the airport at about 8 am.
A spokesperson of the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Mr. Ekpedeme King, confirmed the story, saying that the Nigerians were deported for overstaying their visa validity period and other immigration-related offenses.
Another spokesperson reported that the 48 deportees had nothing to do with the alleged 29,000 Nigerians that the UK was planning to deport back into the country.
The news according to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) this morning announced that a plane carrying about 500 Nigerians deportees from the UK had landed at the Lagos Airport.
However, the NIS officials clarified that only 48 Nigerian deportees arrived from the UK and that they were not happy to be back in the country.
