Ex-foreign minister Michel Kafando was named as interim president in a key step towards elections after the wake of a brief military takeover followed protests.

He was selected by a committee of 23 officials and would head the country until 2015.

Michel Kafando was chosen as part of a agreement stricken out after long time President Blaise Compaore was fallen on October, 31 following mass protests, only to be replaced a day later Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida.

The army took power after President Blaise Compaore was forced to resign on 31 October during mass protests.
