House of Reps speaker Aminu Tambwual might be arrested over his face-off with the police during the yesterday’s incident at the complex of the National Assembly.

It would be recalled that the building was blocked by the security Thursday, November 20, ahead of the scheduled meeting to be presided by Tambuwal regarding the emergency rule extension.

Soon some lawmakers started jumping over the fence and finally got the speaker, who has recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), into the building.

The Cable reports with reference to its sources that IGP Suleiman Abba ordered Tambuwal’s arrest through instructions issued to the police commands in FCT and Sokoto.

This allegedly comes on the same day the defected speaker has picked his Sokoto governorship form to contest for the position on the platform of the APC.

However Abba, when asked about the authenticity of the “arrest” information, characterized it as “propaganda”.

Meanwhile after the Friday meeting with the Presidency on the issue, Abba promised detailed investigation on what had happened at the premises of the National Assembly.

Daily Trust confirms the information about arrest order referring to the police sources. Abba allegedly gave instruction for Tambuwal’s arrest after the said meeting.

“I can confirm to you that the order for his arrest has been given today (Friday). The signal from the IG’s office specifically directed the FCT and Sokoto State commissioners of Police to serve Tambuwal with notice of invitation to the force headquarters and if he resists, he should be arrested immediately.

“The involvement of Sokoto CP was because the Speaker was sighted in Sokoto on Friday where he picked the All Progressive Congress (APC) governorship form for the coming elections. It was assumed that he was out of Abuja as such other police divisions were involved in the matter.

“The NSA was particularly angry and told the IG in clear terms that he doesn’t know his job. He said how did the Speaker and the members break a cordon organised by the FCT Police commissioner. The NSA then made it clear that the Police authorities must rectify the anomalies or they will face the consequences. The IG then said Tambuwal will be arrested for questioning.”

At the time of filing this report no information about the speaker’s actual arrest was available.
