DHQ Debunk Reports On Military Helicopter Crash In Yola
A third helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reportedly crashed in the Damare neighborhood of the Federal University of Technology in Yola, Adamawa State.
No word yet if there are any casualties.
The first details appeared in the afternoon of November 21, 2014, Friday, on various media, including SaharaReporters and Daily Post.
However, the Nigerian military debunked the information that any of NAF aircraft was involved in a crash today, neither in Yola, nor in other part of Nigeria.
PremiumTimes quotes the words of Air Commodore Dele Alonge, who is also the spokesperson for the NAF:
“I have spoken with the commander of our fleet in Yola and he said all our planes are intact, that they are not involved in any accident.”
The newsmen were able to get a similar comment by phone from the DHQ spokesperson, Maj.Gen. Chris Olukolade:
“I do not have any information at this point that any of our planes is involved in an accident.”
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian aviation authorities, Mr Yakubu Datti also debunked the reports about helicopter crash in Yola, Adamawa State. The FAAN official informed he had called the control tower responsible for monitoring the air traffick in the area.
“They are not aware of any crash,” Datti said, adding, “We don’t know where the story of the plane crash came from.”
If confirmed, this would be the third crash of military helicopters in the Yola metropolis during November 2014.
It would be recalled that just last week a helicopter crash-landed in Yola International Airport.
Another military helicopter went down near Yola on November 13, 2014, Thursday. The aircraft hit the ground and exploded near the Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH).
