Kogi Spends N2.99bn On Renovation Of Schools

         The Kogi State Governor, Capt. Idris Wada, said the state government had spent N2.99bn on the renovation of some primary and post-primary schools in the state.

Wada stated this at the weekend during the commissioning of rehabilitated schools funded by Oladele Oyelola Foundation at Ayegunle Gbede, Iyah Gbede and Ayetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government of the state.

He explained that while N1.64bn was invested in the upgrading of some primary schools in the state, N1.35bn was expended on the upgrade of facilities in select post-primary schools across the state.

Wada who was represented by his Deputy, Yomi Awoniyi, listed Abdulazeez Atta Memorial College, Okene, Government Secondary School, Dekina, St. Augustine’s College, Kabba and Titcombe College, Egbe among some of the schools undergoing rehabilitation in the state.

The Governor disclosed that education is a right and not a privilege, saying that government will in 2015 further boost education by committing over N5 billion to the provision of structural, instructional and social facilities in primary and basic schools in the State.

He added that as a product of public school, and having enjoyed considerable leveling opportunities that made it possible for him to pursue his academic careers notwithstanding the economic status of his parents, he is propelled to improve the physical conditions of public schools in the State to what it was in the past.

The Governor described education as the safest way in ensuring sustainable development through the continuous provision of knowledge and skills to the younger generation. He also commended Mr. Oladele Oyelola, founder of Oladele Oyelola Foundation for his resolve at promoting human capital development and empowerment. He added that Oladele’s contributions are in line with the philosophy and the desire of his administration to restore the lost glory and the public confidence in public schools in the State.

Earlier in his welcome address, Mr. Oladele Oyelola, founder of Oladele Oyelola Mr. Oladele said the funding of education, considered the bedrock of sustainable development all over the world can no longer be left in the hands of government alone, urged other individuals with means to assist giving back to the society by contributing to the upgrade of school facilities, partner with the State Government in developing the education sector.
