Bill Cosby Refuses To Address Rape Allegations, Demands Associated Press Not Air Interview

Bill Cosby refused to address the rape accusations against him in an interview earlier this month with the Associated Press, and then demanded the exchange be cut from the broadcast. The outlet released the previously unseen footage on Wednesday, in the wake of mounting sexual assault allegations against the star.

In the interview, conducted on Nov. 6 in Washington, Cosby sits alongside his wife as the interviewer says he has to ask about the newly-resurfaced claims. Cosby replies, “No, no. We don’t answer that.” As the journalist asks if wants to respond to the accusations, the comedy legend says, “There’s no response.” And then when the journalist wonders if people should view his persona differently, Cosby answers, “There is no comment about that. And I’ll tell you why. I think you were told — I don’t want to compromise your integrity — but I don’t talk about it.”

But Cosby brought the topic back up as the conversation wrapped up. “Now can I get something from you?” he asks the journalist. “That none of that will be shown.” Cosby continues, “I know I didn’t say anything. But I’m asking with your integrity that since I didn’t want to say anything, but I did answer you in terms of I don’t want to say anything, to what value will it have… And I would appreciate it if it was scuttled.” The comedian goes on to say that, because it was the Associated Press, he didn’t think it was necessary to “go over” the question in advance, again calling out the journalist and outlet’s “integrity,” and telling a member of his own team to get on with the phone with the interviewer’s boss “immediately.”

As Gossip Cop reported, the allegations against Cosby have led Netflix to postpone the launch of his “Bill Cosby 77″ comedy special. On Wednesday it was also confirmed that NBC is not moving forward on a television project it was developing with the former “Cosby Show” star. Cosby’s legal team has refrained from addressing many of the specific accusations, but released a statement refuting Janice Dickinson’s claims that he raped her.

Following all these developments, the Associated Press says it “reviewed an on camera interview with Bill Cosby earlier this month and made the decision to publish his full reaction to questions about the claims.”
