Catholic Priest Describes Collecting Tithe As stealing
Rev. Fr Anselm Onyeka, a Catholic priest, has criticized the constant gathering of tithe from worshippers in some churches, describing the act as stealing from the people.
Onyeka, who is the parish priest of the church, said tithing was no longer available because, according to him, Jesus Christ never spoke of it all his life time on earth.
He said it amounted to charging more the people after tasking them to donate for the building of the church, drilling the priest and other forms of offerings in the church, saying that all the priests gathering taxes do not account for it as the patriarch or higher authority in the church was not alert of it.
Onyeka added in the Catholic Church for example, apart from the special charities meant to take care of other works in any bishopric.
The only money that is expected to the bishop is 20 percent of the Sunday proposing from all the communities that make up the bishopric while another 20 percent is kept for the old people’s homes and that tithes gathered in any Catholic Church were never accounted for.
He moaned that because of the enthusiasm to please priests for tithes, some people involve in kidnapping and all sorts of crimes.
Onyeka further said that tithing had become a big business for some priests who now build castles and live expensive lifestyles.
He used the possibility to advise parents to train their children in the way of God, saying lack of proper training of children had left the society with the present problems devastating it.
