Nigeria Dream Team VI Lifts U23 AFCON Trophy After Defeating Algeria

Nigeria’s Dream Team VI have won the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Senegal. A brace by Etebo Oghenekaro ensured that Samson Siasia’s men came out victorious against a very organised Algeria.

Etebo gave Nigeria the lead from the penalty spot in the twelfth minute after he was fouled in the 18-yard-box. Algeria drew level via an own goal by Oduduwa Segun whose header diverted Fehat’s cross into his own net.

Etebo struck again in the 40th minute as he powered his way through to goal from the centre, slotting the ball past the Algerian goal keeper. It ended Nigeria 2 – 1 Algeria.

Nigeria meets Algeria in the final of the 2015 U-23 Africa Nations Cup. The two teams have played in the group stages of the tournament.

The two teams have qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics after making it to the finals.

The two teams faced in the group stages earlier in the tournament and the match ended in a goalless stalemate despite numerous chances that fell both sides.

The Dream team welcome back captain  Azubuike Okechukwu who missed the semi-final clash with Senegal through suspension. Taiwo Awoniyi is fit after suffering an injury.
