Security Guard Mistaken For Boko Haram Kingpin By Army, Released Without Apology

Over a month after it announced the capture of one Abubakar Sadiq, a Maiduguri resident on suspicions that he was one of the 100 Boko Haram kingpins declared wanted by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, the Nigerian Army on Friday said its Joint Investigation Committee has found the suspect not connected with terrorism and released him.

The army had while announcing the arrest of Malam Sadiq, a security guard at the residence of Mohammed Daggash in the Borno State capital on November 18, said he was suspect number 28 on the 100 wanted Boko Haram list.

“However, a thorough investigation carried out, as well as new Boko Haram terrorists video clip acquired and the employment of forensic analysis, the committee conclusively confirmed that it was a case of mistaken identity”, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Sani Usman, said on Friday.

“The erroneously arrested person has since been released to his family.

“The investigation further showed that Daggash family have nothing to do with the incident or associated with any security breach in Borno State”, Usman, a colonel said.
